The laser hair comb may sound like a gimmick, but for people suffering from thinning hair or hair loss it is worth investigation. Laser hair therapy is the latest device for re-growing hair. It uses cool or red spectrum light laser to enhance the restoration of scalp hair without side effects or the need for clinic visits or prescription medications. Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT ) or cool light laser uses laser energy to energize the tissue on the scalp. As the lasers in the laser hair comb are passed over the scalp area, the hair follicles receive the high intensity light and cell processes are stimulated, causing new or renewed hair growth. This process is scientifically known as Photo Bio-stimulation. Similar to photosynthesis in plants, where light energy is transformed into chemical energy to cause plant growth to create food, here the cellular energy creates new hair growth. This laser technology has been used for 25+ years in Europe and for nearly 10 years in clinics in the United States for treating hair loss. This treatment in a clinical setting was quite costly and time consuming as it required multiple weekly sessions that needed to be scheduled for 6 months at a time before the sessions could be tapered down to once a week or less. Now, the laser hair comb provides treatment at relatively low price and can be used conveniently at home or even while traveling.
Before using your laser hair comb, make sure you read and understand the directions in the user manual. The best combs have batteries (not cumbersome electrical cords), so make sure you get rechargeable batteries for the most cost effective use. Brush your hair using the laser comb, as you do with your regular comb, or slowly move the comb over all areas of the scalp for 10 to 15 minutes. The bristles or teeth of the comb will keep the laser light at the correct distance from your scalp. The comb should be used on dry hair for 10 to 15 minutes, three days a week for the best hair restoration results.
Laser hair combs work on the principle of phototherapy or light therapy. The correct laser frequency is concentrated on the scalp to increase blood circulation resulting in hair growth. The process, similar to photosynthesis in plants, is known as photobiostimulation. In a laser hair comb, lasers emit red (or cool) light waves which pass through the soft tissues of the scalp and about 5 to 6mm into the hair follicles. This light results in the increased molecular action of adenosine triphosphate(ATP) which stores and transports energy. This action increases cellular metabolism by stimulating the cells intake of nutrients and the removing waste products. In this process damaged tissues get replaced and repaired quickly resulting in increased hair growth and hair restoration.
Laser hair combs use low level laser or cold laser therapy as a non-invasive method to re-grow hair and restore its youthful qualities. Surgery and prescription medications or covering up the problem are the only alternatives to this light therapy. No chemicals are used and there is no thermal or heat damage to the scalp. Both men and women are good candidates for this treatment and it is painless and safe with no known side effects. In fact, use of these devices can decrease inflammation and edema of the area treated. Some people may think that the cost is prohibitive. The initial outlay of $300-$500 for the laser comb is the main cost. A good quality laser comb can use rechargeable batteries, which is a cost savings. Any shampoos or conditioners that compliment the laser therapy process cost no more than traditional quality products, and any suggested vitamins are good for all areas of your health.
